A new petrochemical additive, Biomax Strong has been developed by DuPont. According to the manufacturer, it is capable of reducing the brittleness of biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA) packaging.
PLA is a corn-based biodegradable polymer, which is made by US-based NatureWorks. According to DuPont, the polymer made with the Biomax Strong additive is still compostible.
Biomax Strong increases toughness, also increasing the transparency of the final containers made from PLA, DuPont claimed.
