It is for no reason that every young automobile designer is being encouraged to think green and clean when it comes to designing and functioning of modern vehicles. Bentley is a brand that is already pretty popular and it is something that needs no new feather in its cap to make sure that it hits the headlines. This pretty much should tell all those skeptics that when a car maker is shifting to ‘green’, then it is no longer by default but by choice. Going green is both cool and necessary in toady’s world and the auto makers are realizing it pretty fast.
Being an apprentice at Bentley does not give one a lot of spare time as we all know how the company functions. But a young team of nine apprentices comprising the Bentley Greenpower Team, however, have found the time over the past ten months to build an exceptional little electrical vehicle for the Greenpower Corporate Challenge that kicked off at the Goodwood race circuit. This green race is for those clean eco-vehicles that run on green fuel with zero-emissions.
Dubbed the Continental DC, the electric car was developed using the same CAD software that Bentley uses for its own cars, and is powered by two 12-volt batteries and a 24-volt motor that’s required by competition rules. The body is also based on Bentley’s 2004 Goodwood soap box racer and is basically invisible to wind resistance. The use of carbon fiber to keep weight down is extensive and all these measures increase the efficiency of the engine and reduce the usage of fuel. More such electric vehicles and future designs with such amazing green technology could really be helpful for the planet. The all new electric Bentley is though not a commercial model; at least not yet!
