Belectric is about to do it again. The company which is already well known for its high performing, low cost solar power plants is now planning the world’s largest solar parking lot in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Proposed for the swanky new North Park offices of Saudi Aramco in Dhahran, the 10 megawatts Photovoltaic Carport System is expected to cover all of the company’s 4,500 parking spaces. Belectric plans to feed the electricity produced by this parking lot to the public grid by the end of 2011 positively.

Onboard this prestigious project, along with Belectric, is another regional solar power pioneer called Sun & Life. This subsidiary of the Acwa Holding, is better known as Saudi Arabia’s leader in designing and developing private power and water generation projects. Also pitching in is the Japanese firm, Thin Film Leader Solar Frontier (Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K.), which is responsible for both, supplying and installing, about 120,000 of the CIS (Copper Indium Selenide) photovoltaic modules needed in the carport.

According to the two companies, this is just the beginning. The two regional energy pioneers plan to take their partnership to new levels by engaging in a joint venture in EPC contracting of solar power plants and manufacturing of Balance of System components in Saudi Arabia.
