Eco Factor: Communal shelter with bamboo made roofing, flooring, water and drainage pipes.
Making a breakthrough as a communal shelter for disadvantaged populations around the Indian Ocean rim, the “Bamboo Pavilion” is a beautiful structure that offers green lifestyle. Designed by Australian designer Esan Rahmani in collaboration with Mukul Damle, this contemporary shelter for the homeless is made from bamboo. Considering the fact that bamboo is a perfect material to build roofing, flooring, water and drainage pipes, the entire structure was made from just bamboo.
Designed to provide good quality living to the inhabitants, the Bamboo Pavilion comes loaded with all modern amenities. The central large funnel that opens to the sky not only draws daylight into the structure and sleeping area, but also provides natural ventilation. There are pipes made from bamboo, which interconnect to each other to collect and channel the rainwater into a central basin, where it is filtered and stored for use. Imitating the traditional terracotta tiles style, the roof that is tiled using quarter cuts of bamboo creates a stunning view.
