Baby Piano: One of the world’s largest naturally lit museum spaces to open soon

Eco Factor: Eco-friendly exhibition pavilion with windows and slats to naturally illuminate beautiful art works.

Under the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s revitalization, dramatically titled “Transformation,” a new green pavilion welcoming the art lovers has been recently erected on the campus. Designed by starchitect Renzo Piano and his Renzo Piano Building Workshop, the Linda and Stewart Resnick Exhibition Pavilion is a large single-story, flexible space with jagged windows and slats that allow ample amounts of natural light to flow into every corner of the building, saving energy and illuminating the beautiful works of art.

Better known as the “Baby Piano,” this 45,000-square-foot amazing pavilion is claimed to be the largest purpose-built, naturally lit, open-plan museum space in the world. Named after local philanthropists Lynda and Stewart Resnick, who gave the museum $45 million for the building, in addition $10 million worth of art, the pavilion was briefly open this summer for a test installation.

On the other side of the campus, Piano built the museum’s Broad Contemporary Art Museum building with the same white travertine facades, bright red duct-work and glass ceiling illuminating the space with natural light. The Baby Piano is all set to welcome many art enthusiast on its officially opening on October 2.
