Earlier the state lawmakers in New Jersey sniffed the proposal of switching from incandescent to fluorescent bulbs. Well, Australia is set to become world’s first country to disallow incandescent light bulbs in order to rein in Greenhouse gas emissions. The government said that the yellow incandescent bulbs that have been inuse for the last 125 years will be swapped with energy efficient fluorescent bulbs by the year 2009.

Environment Minister Malcolm Turnbull cited that the prohibiting of incandescent bulbs would reduce 800,000 tons from Australia’s current emissions level by 2012 and lower household lighting costs by 66 percent.

For your info, compact fluorescent light bulbs consume only 20 percent as much electricity as standard light bulbs to produce the same amount of light.
