If the display of cars in the LA auto show is anything to go by, then automakers are surely serious about showing their environmentally friendly side (though the critics, say it is just a very good PR exercise!) After all, it is fashionable to say that you are concerned about the environment. Though most of the emphasis in the LA auto show is on the typical SUVs, sedans, high-end exotics and luxury cars, but, one gets to see a host of hybrid, electric or fuel-cell vehicles from various automakers, who are vowing to increase the fuel efficiency of their fleets (Some automakers have promised alternative fuel vehicles on the road within months, and one or two say they want to lead the industry beyond oil!) Keeping my fingers crossed, I truly hope so. I guess, the automakers have finally realized that in order to survive they have to invest in hybrid, electric or fuel-cell vehicles, because rising fuel costs, global warming and the security risks that come with dependence on foreign oil is a reality which no one in their right minds can ignore. A wide array of eco-friendly cars are on display, from the tiny Smart Fortwo gas-powered runabout to the mid-sized Mercedes Benz S400 Bluetec diesel to the giant Chevrolet Tahoe SUV hybrid named “Green Car of the Year.” Hybrids are big this year, appearing in everything from the Chevrolet Malibu sedan to the Porsche Cayenne. If you want to take a tour at all the green cars on display at the LA auto show, take a look at this video.
