An architectural prodigy: Muscat Cultural Center

I have seen paintings, movies, events that are the reflection of a country’s culture and heritage. Innumerable books are also written showcasing and encompassing a country’s ethos and traditions. But there are not many countries in the world, I reckon, that have architects who have designed marvels which bring together their nation’s cultural heritage under one roof in the most unique way.

Muscat Cultural Center, the brainchild of AS Architecture Studio, is a benchmark in the world of international architecture. The Center portrays Oman’s vivid vibrancy and puts it on international platform giving it a hitherto unknown form, feature and fame.

Unbelievably futuristic and extraordinarily crafted, the Muscat Cultural Center is an awrd winning creation, which brings to life the Omani legacy in full colors and in contrast to anything ever attempted before on similar lines.

Seeing is believing, and Muscat Cultural Center is worth its weight in gold. Here’s an overview of this astonishing creation that will leave the world and the connoisseurs of architecture in absolute awe.

To begin with, the work of art will enjoy natural illumination thanks to its colossal white roof sections perforated for free flow of light and air. The idea is inspired by Oman’s mosque architecture. The natural sunlight filters onto the large public spaces, thus reducing the need to use artificial lights during the day. The improved conditions and ventilation lends the Center a distinct contemporary aesthetic look.

While the roof of Muscat Cultural Center bulges on the western wing for the theater program, the central courtyard is ensconced by Oman’s National Theatre, National Archive and National Library.

The location of Muscat Cultural Center is also swashbuckling. Appointed strategically between the sea and mountains the Center is an oasis of palm trees and protected open spaces. There are three wings adjacent to the courtyard, which is the protected core of the traditional fortified floor plan.

I know what you are thinking. Oman is an extremely hot country so how does the Center keeps itself cool? Well, the answer is very simple. The Center is naturally cooled by overhangs and water features reminiscent of the countries aqueducts or falajs.

Muscat Cultural Center is an inspiration for the generation next of architects who dream to ‘build’ their way into history books.
