AIST develops solar cell panels that look like a real leaf

Aristotle, the great Greek philosopher, viewed all art as being essentially an imitation of life. But I’m sure if he were alive today, even he would have a hard time finding suitable adjectives to describe this design rip-off! Apparently, a bunch of scientists over at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Japan, were so mesmerized with nature’s clever tech designs that they decided to imitate it without alteration.

Of course growing artificial trees would be a little out of league for most humans at this point in time, so they settled for designing a bunch of solar cells in the shape of a full-fledged green plant! The plant-like solar cell module prototype features “leaves” that are made of eight 7.5 sq. cm. of organic thin-film solar cells that are further combines to create a 60 sq. cm solar module, or as you would have it, the leaf which is definitely more aesthetically sound than the traditional solar panels. Since the solar leaf does the same work as a normal solar energy installation does, the developers behind the project are hoping this design might be more acceptable to the general public and might even be able to persuade them to go green very soon!
