A trash boat made of plastic bottles and advertising banners

ForEver

If you believe that trash is meant for throwing away then you are wrong. A trash boat made of plastic bottles and advertising banners is
drawing attention of people all around the world. The boat is entirely made of trash items and was built in Taiwan as a part of a competition for ecofriendly boats sponsored by the National Geographic Channel. The boat nicknamed Polli-boat is 23 feet long and is made of 804 bricks of plastic bottle. The sails are made of old advertising banners and solar panels are used for providing the energy to power the motor.

According to Arthur Huang, the managing director and founder of Miniwiz Sustainable Energy Private Limited, who made the boat, the concept for the competition was 100 percent trash. The boat is propelled with the help of renewable resources like wind, solar power etc. Each solar panel is able to generate 72 watts. The power generated using the panels is used for propelling the boat when there is no wind.

The competition had many entrants, nearly 200, of which only 10 designs were selected as the most innovative boat made using all recycled
materials. One of them was shaped like the black-faced spoonbill in order to protect the wetlands. Another design consisted of a floating city to create awareness about the effects of rising sea levels. Such competitions are very useful and will help people to understand the importance of conserving energy and the green earth concept. It will lead to new inventions and discoveries that can help reduce pollution.
