A frozen building gets an eco friendly face lift to house the World Wildlife Fund

dutch wwf nNiGK 5784 Hey did you know that 1 in 18 of the Dutch population actively support the work of the WWF to protect nature in all its aspects. Actually the ratio of one in eighteen may not sound too good but when you compare it to the stats of the countries then it does stand out. To prove their concern for nature and environment, recently the Dutch branch of the World Wildlife Fund relocated to its new premises, created by Thomas Rau. Located in the nature reserve Schoonoord, it was originally an agricultural laboratory in1954. however, today the building boosts of being self-sufficient, energy-efficient as well CO2 neutral. It was intended to maintain the frame of the building, to reuse the rubble and to add a warm, pulsating heart in the middle. All this was done but not at the cost of ruining the purpose of the structure. dutch wwf1 rqmlq 5784 Horizontal wooden blinds allow maximum light keep it bright from inside too. The moisture-balancing mud ceilings help to maintain the temperature by continuous circulation through little glass tubes. Of course, there is space is made for wildlife: ‘bird-friendly roofing tiles’ and ‘bat basements’. The revamped green wild life structure implies that it is possible, even by simple means, to realize an energy- and nature-saving world. Winner of the Dedalo Minosse International Prize, every material used in this structure is eco-friendly as well as free of child labor issues.
