Blast from The Past – Solar Powered radio From the 50’s

lrg solar radio

Call this far sightedness or just another innovation from General Electric’s, but more or less thinking about solar energy way back in the 50’s is commendable. What we are thinking today was practically put into practice in the 50’s. A solar powered radio, that weighed just 10 ounce and worked in total darkness without recharging. The blast from the past used a miniature storage battery, four transistors and seven solar cells which converted the sun’s energy to electric currents. May be this device was a dream come true at that time, but today this dream has become a necessity.
